This superb international band is the last gig of this season at Sherborne Jazz Club

Yaniv Nachum Quartet

The visit of the Yaniv Nachum Quartet from Amsterdam will turn out to be, for many, the highlight of the season at Sherborne Jazz Club. In conjunction with The BeBop Club in Bristol we are presenting this truly superb international band in the UK as part of their European tour.

In short: this is a gig not to be missed! Based in Amsterdam, the Yaniv Nachum Quartet showcases the multiple talents of Israeli saxophonist Yaniv Nachum, German pianist Franz von Chossy, bassist Sean Fasciani from the USA, and Finnish drummer Anssi Lehtivuori. Together they form a wonderfully cohesive group of virtuoso musicians who, when they visited Sherborne last year, performed some of the finest jazz ever heard at the Club.

The band play almost exclusively their own material, consisting of graceful, thought-provoking ballads, and soaring faster numbers – all performed with the innate musical communication and expressive democracy that comes from years of having played together.Yaniv’s experience as both student and teacher at the Manhattan School of Music is clearly evident from the skill and maturity of his saxophone playing, and his devotion to his craft has brought about a most wonderful tone and the ability to improvise beautifully and meticulously at speed, whilst sensitively and emotionally in the ballad.

Playing along side US heavyweights such as Chris Potter, Mike Manieri and Slide Hampton certainly cannot have failed to contribute to Yaniv’s musical ascension, and Yaniv is actively engaged in passing on some of this wisdom as a teacher of jazz improvisation at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and we understand that he may soon take up a post teaching the Master's degree at the Manhattan School of Music.
